Orientation and Transition Policy
Each child and family must be provided with a positive experience as they transition to nursery care. A positive transition experience minimizes distress to the child and parent and helps to form the foundation of a warm and trusting relationship.
The transition into nursery care is a significant event for both the child and the family.
Parents/guardians must be reassured that the trust that they are placing in the nursery staff to care for their child is honored and respected.
Bedayati aims to ensure your child’s introduction to nursery is as stress fee as possible.
We encourage you and your child to visit the nursery prior to your child’s official start date this helps to familiarize your child with the nursery, the nursery staff and the other children, and provides the opportunity to give your journey a trial run.
A child who is tense and unhappy will not be able to play or learn properly, so it is important for the parents/guardians and staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group. This takes longer for some children and parents/guardians should not feel worried if their takes a while to settle. You must be prepared to accept that it may take some time for your child to adjust to the nursery but very few children fail to settle eventually.
Children are likely to experience separation anxiety which can cause both the child and parent extreme stress.
We find that staying with your child and then leaving them for short periods of time eases the separation process.
Please remember, the more your child comes and experiences the activities on offer and sees you interacting with the staff, the more settled they will feel.
Strategies and Practices
Orientation visits are designed to familiarize the parent/guardian and child with staff, the physical settling and daily routines. They also allow staff to become acquainted with the parent/guardian and the child. Practitioners will seek information about the child’s development to date, language and cultural background, interest, special needs, the child’s daily routines, likes and dislikes.
Where the child being enrolled is an infant and toddler, additional information is shared about the care routines, especially sleep, feeding and nappy change.
